Defragment Database Microsoft Exchange 2003

Hello! Today we will learn to defragment a database on an Exchange server 2003. Defragmentation is the process of compacting or reorganizing the data as mail or public folders. Defragmenting the database improves access speed and data recovery. There are two types of defragmentation: the online and offline. Defragmentation Online is made by the Exchange server between 01:00 and 05:00 am every day (You can configure it from the Exchange System Manager). Offline defragmentation is performed to optimize the database and requires removal, in other words, users who have mailboxes in the database to defragment can not access their mail during the process. For the BD desframentar Exchange requires that the disk has enough space, more than 110% the size of the database. If the 20GB weighs database, we defragment a local drive with at least 24 GB free, to avoid damage to the database.

Steps to defrag offline:
  1. define the Mailbox defragmented store and locate the path to the database.
  2. Dismount the Mailbox Store or defragmented database from Exchange System Manager. Go to Exchange System Manager, locate the Mailbox Store, right click Dismount .

  3. Run the command eseutil / d "path to the database" [Options] . This command is on the Exchange installation path:% \\ programs and files \\ exchsrvr \\ bin \\ eseutil.exe. Example: eseutil / d "c: \\ programs and files \\ exchsrvr \\ mdbdata \\ prib1.edb." For a list of modifiers run eseutil: eseutil /?
  4. be executed the defragmentation process. This process will take according to the size of the database. Approximately 6 GB-7.5GB defragments a time on a hardware server environment.

  5. After the defragmentation proceed to mount the Mailbox Store or dismounted database.

  6. This process applies to databases, Microsoft Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003.
